Removing metadata…
The file does not need to be uploaded to our server for processing.
Nothing was uploaded. Each file downloads individually. Your browser may ask permission for multiple downloads.
How It Works
Meta Cleaner removes metadata by rewriting each file in your browser. Images are re-encoded through a canvas. PDF, audio and video files have their metadata fields blanked or neutralised without altering the actual content. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
Upload
Drag and drop your files or click to browse. Images, PDF, audio and video are all supported.
Clean
We rewrite each file locally, stripping metadata tags while keeping the content intact.

What Is File Metadata?
File metadata is hidden information embedded inside a file. It can include the camera model, GPS coordinates, author name, software used, timestamps, device identifiers and copyright details. It is separate from the actual content and can be removed without affecting what you see or hear.

Free Metadata Remover for Images, PDF, Audio and Video
Meta Cleaner is a free online tool that removes EXIF, GPS, author, ID3 and container metadata from JPG, PNG, WebP, PDF, MP3, M4A, MP4 and MOV files. It runs entirely in your browser so files never leave your device.
File metadata is hidden information stored inside a file beyond what you can see. In photos it's called EXIF and can include the camera model, date and time, and GPS coordinates. In PDFs it can include the author name, software used, and creation dates. In MP3 and M4A audio it includes ID3 tags with artist, album, cover art and comments. In MP4 and MOV video it can include device info, GPS and creation timestamps. Meta Cleaner removes all of these, in your browser, for free.
Image Metadata (EXIF and GPS)
Images captured by phones and cameras embed EXIF data: camera make and model, exposure settings, date and time, and GPS coordinates if location services are enabled. Meta Cleaner re-encodes JPG, PNG and WebP images through the browser's Canvas API, producing fresh files without any EXIF, GPS or copyright tags.
PDF Metadata
PDF documents store author, creator, producer and title information in a document information dictionary. Meta Cleaner blanks the standard information fields and clears XMP metadata streams, leaving the visible pages completely untouched.
Audio Metadata
MP3 files carry ID3 tags: ID3v1 at the end of the file and ID3v2 at the beginning. Meta Cleaner removes both. For M4A and other MP4-based audio, it neutralises the user data (udta) atom that holds iTunes and similar tags.
Video Metadata
MP4, MOV and M4V files store metadata in a user data (udta) atom inside the moov box. Meta Cleaner parses the container structure and neutralises the udta atom, leaving the video and audio tracks completely intact.
When Should You Remove Metadata?
- Before sharing photos on social media, forums or marketplaces
- Before sending documents to clients or publishing them on a website
- Before distributing audio files, demos or podcasts
- Before uploading videos to public platforms
- Before handing any file collection to a client or collaborator
- To reduce file size for faster loading and lower storage costs
Limitations
While Meta Cleaner effectively strips metadata from supported formats, results depend on the specific file structure and browser capabilities. Some unusual or proprietary variants may retain certain fields. We recommend verifying the output for your specific use case.
